“Virtually every medical achievement of the last century has depended directly or indirectly on research with animals “. Statements like this have been endorsed by many scientific bodies, including the US Public Health Service, the American Medical Association, and Britain’s Royal Society and its Department of Health . I agree that human studies are needed for definitive proof and validation on ionized water. There are however many animal studies that suggest ionized water may have some promising applications. As for Kangen not being mentioned on Pub Med this is true but other medically used apparatus are also not named by the companies that manufactures them such as hyperbaric chambers. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy also began with trials on animals and now there are both animal and human studies being done in this arena. Most of the studies and papers on ionized water have come out of Japan. The CIA.gov site lists a world life expectancy list. Japan ranks #3 and the US ranks #42. Perhaps we can learn something from them. Buy the way there are Kangen owners and distributors all over the country who give the water away for free with no obligation of any kind.

Dear Katherine Ball, Yes, the Japanese are healthier than we. But is it because of Kangen water? I doubt it. I have been traveling widely in Japan - including the "longevity island" Okinawa. Okinawa has long embraced western food now, and has lost its famous longevity advantage. Two facts: 1. Japanese eat less than we - you should see the tiny lunch portions one gets served in restaurants! Japanese people, in general, don't snack. They also have a culture of moderation: One does not grab a second helping, and older folks stand back so that the children can eat. If you overstep, your grandmother will tell you to cut it out. 2. Japanese people eat healthier: They prefer fresh fare, fermented foods, more and more varied vegetables than we, they fry less, they eat less meats (without being vegetarians or vegans generally. That does not mean that SAD (Standard American Diet) is not trying to get a foothold in Japan. But overall, the population looks still healthier than, for instance, the Chinese and the Indians. Kangen water? I think it has little to do with Japanese health.

I did not claim that the Japanese are healthier due to Kangen water. Although ionized water( not just Kangen - there are several reputable companies in Japan)is widley used in Japan medically, in industry and in homes - however most people in Japan do not have water ionizers. My point was that we can learn from their studies ( in other areas as well ) the western science has not jumped into yet. The more I "dig " the more I am facinated by the study of water period. One of the properties of ionized water that really excites me is the hydrogen although this alone can be achieved other ways such as hydrogen sticks. Again the Japanese have done animal studies in this area as well - Here is one human study Here is an Open-label trial and randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial of hydrogen-enriched water for mitochondrial and inflammatory myopathies( this also includes open label trial with ionized water) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3231939/ I whole heartedly agree about diet! In 2011 americans died from Heart disease: 597,689 Cancer: 574,743 Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 138,080 Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 129,476 Accidents (unintentional injuries): 120,859 Alzheimer's disease: 83,494 Diabetes: 69,071 I believe the majority can be reversed by diet and lifestyle changes and I've noticed more and more MD's getting on board with drastic diet changes instead of the more traditional medication approach. Good for them. You might also enjoy this paper as it also disscusses water properties of "natural healing waters" as well as ionized water. No conclusive evidence but interesting never the less. Buy the way I am certainly not trying to convince you to by a water ionizer but I just happened acroos this site and as I have been looking at the many properties of water over the last few months and I thought it would be fun to have a good discussion. I used to have these often with my husband on various subjects - fun and stimulating for both of us. He passed away Feb. of 2012 of a massive hemorrhagic stroke ( his second ) . I miss our debates and thought this would be fun.

Dear Katherine Ball, Somehow several comments slipped by me - I apologize that I didn't answer earlier. I do know the Ito et al. The trial shows no objective improvement (the authors state so!) and very limited change in some laboratory parameters. I don't think that anything useful can be concluded from this study - but people send me the link constantly. You list the sad statistics about American health (or unhealth) - thank you! That is why we have to work on it. But I doubt we will get results with easy methods like drinking some miracle water - it will be the hard way, by changing our lifestyles for good. And it is not only about us, the humans - Earth's survival itself is at stake. We all need to move more (but not jog!!) and eat less and fresher. We need to sleep more and be kinder to our fellow human beings and the Earth. I am so sorry for your loss! Last night I was at a party, and there were three widows! It is so sad! I hope you have wonderful memories of him! Go on and find out more about health! It is a fascinating topic. And so essential! All the best!

Try looking up Elecrtrically Reduced Water on Pubmed and the case studies. Kangen Water is exactly that...... ELECTRICALLY REDUCED WATER. Let's not get misinformed. The water does help in the healing process and there are no medical claims that Kangen Water cures any disease. The body is the miracle. Give your body the proper fuel and it will do the work to heal and keep your body in a state of homeostasis. Tap water by law has to have a neutral PH of 7. I'm not sure if adding dangerous chemicals to the water to get the PH to 7 in order to save our infostructure is something I'm interested in digesting.

Kai Laporte, There is not a single article about "Electrically Reduced" Water to be found on PubMed. In the moment, there are really no studies to support those miracle water claims of yours ...
